recording is done!

so yeah, we finished recording last night.
it was good fun and the tracks are sounding fucking sick. we should be getting the final mixes within a couple of weeks and then hopefully we'll be able to put a track up but i don't actually know when we can.

sunday was the most hardcore day ever for us, we woke up at like 5 (well i didn't actually get any sleep and tom managed to get a couple of hours), drove to London, recorded drums all day till about 4 then drove back to winchester and played a show with Brontide who were unbelievably sick, and also amazing guys. They've just booked a massive tour in feb and also have an amazing live video of them recorded a few weeks on their myspace- check it out at www.myspace.com/brontidetheband

anyway, definitely more news coming soon, some exciting, most boring as hell.

keep tuned.

another gig , another piece of equipment gone...

we played an almost awesome show at the joiners yesterday.
thanks to the people that came to see us, it was nice of you to make the trek to soton.
the only problem was my amp kinda broke during the second song but luckily lewis from colour stepped in and lent me his head which was nice of him so thanks to him and to the colour boys who were so nice to us.

yet again we've changed our plans. we've decided to record with Jamie Field (tubelord, colour and caesura) in Kingston, we think he'll suit our sound a lot more than Oli will.
but yeah it's the same dates and everything, but it's gonna be manic, we get back from recording then we have a gig with Brontide (ex IWACS drummer), i hate saying that and I'm sure he hates it too but it gets some people and an excuse to listen to them and to truly see how amaze they are.
but yeah this gig is at the railway on the 21st of december.

it's gonna be sick, we're dressing up as xmas people, we're trying to get other people to do it as well, but it'll probably just be me and tom. oh well.

anyway, i'll do another one when we've recorded.

yupyup

we had a hardcore weekend.
we played a show in luton on friday. the george 2nd is an awesome venue with free beer (for us) and free entry (for you)

there was an decent sized crowd for an out of town gig , the only problem was we played like shit. if you were there and bothered to look us up and are bothering to read this, we're sorry.
both tom and i were rather ill, our equipment was fucked and we'd had a long day.
in the end we couldn't hear shit all, tom's trousers were covered in snot, my voice was screwed, my pedals were fucked and tom managed to create a beast of a crack on his ride( it's awesome, its pretty much a fat crack going all the way around the bell of the cymbal, hopefully someday it fall off and we'll just be left with a mini cymbal 10cm across left on the stand) but basically tom only has one cymbal thats not cracked now.

but yeah we played with a couple of awesome bands: Mirror!Mirror! and Yohoghani, sadly HPR broke up the day or two before , i was really looking forward to playing with them.

but yeah, London this week (we hope) and of the course the joiners which if it all works out, should be two sick shows!

recording is the word

yooooooo,
first things first, we have three gigs coming in the coming week and a half.

Luton- 28th Nov
London- 3rd Dec
Southampton- 7th Dec

for more details check the old myspace (www.myspace.com/runwalk)

also to the local people, we got tickets for the Joiners gig in southampton yesterday, they cost £5, come find us or ask through myspace/facebook. this gig is gonna be ace.

anyway, last weekend we took over my house to record 3 tracks they turned out alright. we could only go so far due to RAM limiting us on our mate's computer, however we will be finishing off the tracks after xmas. one is 6 mins long and contains violin!

as of today we've finally found a place to record our 7". it's terribly exciting. we're recording late december in London with Oli Horton famed for his work with Foals and Youthmovies, we're proper excited and hopefully they'll turn out well...

anyway, thats all for now, remember tickets for the joiners!

nonono

no no no George this thursday. but oh well.

anyway, we've got a busy a few weeks coming up, more about that in a couple days time (need to confirm some things)

this weekend, we're recording for our CD thats comes with the 7", the CD will have 5 tracks:

Time is Catching up with me
3,5,10
Projections on the wall
untitled
and a remix of one of the above songs (not yet decided)

this CD will only come with the 7".

anyway, this weekend we're recording projections on the wall and the untitled song which should be great. we're basically taking over my house and we're going to record in loads of different room just cause we can!

also i forgot to mention that a while back, Tom and I recorded a music video for "why can't you do it for one day" it was to help out our two mates with their media project and i haven't seen it yet but apparently it's looking good-it'll probably be up on youtube within a few weeks.

well then,
thats all for now

fireworks give you neckache...

hey the world,
well, yet again long time since i've updated this. but not much happens to our band so we need to save it up for the grand release once every two weeks or so.
basically we had some photos done today for press by master of camera trickery Steven Quinn, we spent way too much time just pissing around and not taking enough shots of us looking indie-tastic!
anyway, we're not actually recording on the 19th due to various reasons, we need to sort this out but this also means that the release of the 7" is probably going to be pushed back maybe to april -WTF i hate time and having no money.
but anyway, we've definitely going on tour now in feb and the dates (unfilled) are on our myspace page.

oh yeah gigs. i said last time i played the george in Andover with James i said that i'd never set foot in Andover again, of course this not been the case. Tom fucking lives in the bloody place. But also we have been offered a gig at the George on the 20th of November and Tom wants to take it because he's never played there before so you know.

anyway that's all for now.

check the myspace for more up to date shit.

a great week

Hey all,
this week Tom did his first two gigs and they both went pretty well (except for a few hiccups here and there) London was awesome, we arrived having doubts- we thought people would dismiss us as we were by far the youngest people in the venue by couple of years at least but everyone was open minded some seemed to enjoy our set. Thanks to Garry for putting us on, he's a great guy and even offered us a very special slot sometime next year which should be great! We also met a nice (but slightly drunk) guy named Phil who was interested in booking shows for us, but we couldn't decide whether he was being serious or just humouring us.
Next up Winchester, it was a great show, nice to see lots of people coming down to shows, El Rodeo and BWL were amazing except for a few hiccups which can only be blamed on the TERRIBLE sound which was thanks to the new sound man at the railers, Keiran- he's a sound guy and everything but he's only been working there for 3 weeks now, but he'll get it soon. I felt we played quite well, but still Tom and i haven't really got the tightness i feel we could achieve, we work incredibly well together (if i say so myself) its just need more time and practice to get used to it.

Next gig is in Luton on the 28th of November, i really am quite honoured to be playing on the this bill, the other bands consist of Mirror!Mirror! and Haemostatic Picnic Races who are both incredible bands and i really can't wait for this show.
On the 19th of November we're heading into the studio to record drums for Time is Catching Up With Me and 3,5,10 (yeah, thats right we've changed it) and i'm not sure whats happening after that really, we were originally going to record the rest by ourselves but after our atrocious attempt at Classroom ( which has now been taken off myspace) we're having second thoughts, but anyway we'll give it a go and see if its good enough.

right now something thats pissing me off is our lack of driving abilities, currently Tom is ahead of me in that field and is currently receiving lessons ( i think), where as i haven't even sent off for my provisional. we have plans to go on tour in feb half term so if we wanna do that (and do it with less stress and cost) we NEED to learn to drive by then.

oh well, wish us luck and thats all for now.

Spend a whole day demoing a song

hey guys,
me and tom spend blood ages making a new song in tom's bedroom with his little recording set up of two mics. woo.

anyway you can hear the new song at www.myspace.com/runwalk it's called classroom and features both tom and myself shakily singing over a roughly mixed ambient, and not song.

this week Tom has his first gig with me at the escape bar in london on the 16th with The Capsized smiles and Rose Elinor Dougall(ex-pipettes) , then 3 days later toms first winchester gig (of probably millions. fuck.) at the railway in on the 19th with DIE!DIE!DIE!, Bright White Light and El Rodeo.

anyway, thats all for now, listen to the song tell us how shit it is and come see us play it worse a at a gig.

cheers,
Matt

Tuesday 30 September 2008

new songs, new recordings and learning songs

well,
it's been a hectic few weeks recently, Tom and I have been practicing like fuck to get these songs down so far i think we have 5 and 3/4 of a new song done.
I'm also teaching Tom another new song tomorrow, its got loads of looping and is quite not like us, it's not that we're taking a majorly different direction its just an experimental song i guess.
This will be recorded soon (can't say when, but soon) and it may or may not appear on the myspace and other online communities ( but again i can't guarantee this)
but anyway, we didn't win that subways thing, sleepyhead did, and the best of luck to them at the gig.

but onto gigs that we ARE playing:

19th of october-The Railway Inn

besides this we have also just been confirmed for a gig at the George 2nd in Luton (infamous for its cheap drinks which has claimed many victims so i've heard) on november the 28th
this is going to be an amazing gig, its with a band i've loved for ages HPR ( haemostatic picnic races) and another band called Yonoghani and another special act which are TBC.

anyway, thats all for now

Monday 22 September 2008

Please vote for us to support the subways

Taken from myspace/facebook :

"IT LITERALLY TAKES 5 SECONDS, you don't have to sign up to anything, just go on the link and click on the button on the left.

Basically,
ages ago we entered a competition on XFM to support the subway's at London Brixton Academy on October 15th.
Turns out us and 3 other bands have been chosen out of thousands as the 4 finalists.

what's happening is the 4 bands are being played on xfm from monday to thursday and then people can vote and feedback on our XFM uploaded profile (http://www.xfmuploaded.co.uk/runwalk)

we're being played on TUESDAY night (thats tomorrow) at about 11PM so we'd be absolutely thrilled if you could listen in and vote for us. ultimately The subways have got the decision of who plays so who knows.

anyway if you guys could help us out it would mean a lot,
and more exciting news coming soon!

matt and tom"

we've also just booked a day to track the drums for our 7" :)

Thursday 11 September 2008

Going good

y'alright mate?

yeah mate, me and Tom have had two practices now, things are going good we've managed to get 4 songs dialled, we've got one more than we need to finish off 2 of the half written songs we've done. The songs have a new energy to them, and i'm so excited for you guys to hear Tom's versions of the songs.
Anyway, releases.
Tom and i are going to be releasing a 7" (if you didn't know) we're going to record it pretty much ourselves, we're tracking the drums at a local studio early november then we'll do the bass and vocals ourselves then send it off to some person with skills to mix and master it!
The track listing for the record is going to be :

Time is Catching up With Me
N.B.Y

also with the 7" you'll get a CDr with those 2 songs on it so you can put them on your computer also the CD will have probably about 3 or 4 songs that we're going to demo with our mate Josh Bruty. (expect an acoustic song and an ambient, electro epic as well as two new songs which we'll be playing live at the 19th of october as well)
anyway, we'll get back to you soon once we've found out more details about the whole thing.

We will be gigging a bit before xmas but we're mainly going to start in the new year and especially in half terms we'll be out on the road.

anyway, thanks for reading if you did.

Saturday 6 September 2008

band practices and stuff

hey,
i don't know why I'm still up right now. been watching family guy all evening pretty much and my back hurts from sitting in this god damn chair.

anyway, basically I'm typing here to say me and Tom are having our second ever band practice ( i guess you could say its our first one, the other one was just a "jam")
from our jam sessions we have a few ideas for new songs and we shall be working on those soon but for now we need to just work on songs for the set.
This coming week we will be announcing tom's first gig which will be soon ,and it's probably going to be playing with biggest band we've ever played with so it should be a gooden!
we're both getting too excited about unleashing this all new run,WALK! on everyone, obviously Tom brings in a lot of different influences to the band so who knows what the new songs will turn out like. Tom will also be sharing the vocal duties with me, giving me more time for more complicated bass/pedal stuff and running around. I'm tempted to start doing a "blakfish" where you run into the crowd hoping to hit someone but fortunately you don't normally. however I'm not as hedonistic as blakfish, and also with my bass having a longer neck i fear it may result in some serious damage. basically all I'm saying don't come to our gigs anymore, you may lose an eye.

this has turned into a massive essay, it was only meant to be a couple of lines and i probably still had more important stuff to say but oh well.

peace xx

The End of an Era but a bright future

Hey there,
it's Matt here, I'm here to inform you about some major changes going on around here.

James has decided to quit the band, sensibly he decided that he wanted to put his college studies and other commitments first and the band was taking up too much time and effort. There are no hard feelings between us, we're still the best of friends but i always felt James' hasn't really been into the band as of recently so i think it's best he called it a day. However he won't be just leaving, he's playing one last gig with me as run,WALK!  it's at Hampton's Bar in Southampton on September 19Th (Friday) we will be supporting Lonely Ghosts and Will Doyle there are more acts to be confirmed so we'll get back to on that. It'd be great if everyone could come down and show James some love as its his last gig. James and I started this band a couple of years ago as a jam band and i guess it just got a bit too serious for his liking and i wish him all the luck in future with his college & university courses which I'm sure he'll ace!

so what's happening right now then? we'll we're( I'm) not breaking up, James informed a few months back that he didn't wish to continue the band past the end of college. so me, not wanting to stop the band that i have put my life and soul into for the past 2 years i went looking for a drummer to join at the end of college. well he's joining now. His name is Tom Clements, he's the drummer from Feralmare(1st band in our top 8)  as well. This man may be half (quarter)the size of James in height but he certainly knows his way around the drum kit, and another plus he's like one of our biggest fans so he's it's gonna work well. Tom's first gig is yet to be confirmed but it will be soon. Tom and I are going to take the band to another level, and will be gigging, recording and releasing  stuff as much as possible. Anyway more information on that later. Here's what tom looks like :

Wednesday 27 August 2008

we've got more news coming soon

we'll be booking shows again soon, there'll also be more news on our releases and recording and stuff.

i kinda need a job first.

i'll get back to you next week probably.

Tuesday 19 August 2008

finally finally

So yeah,
long time no type eh?
i really haven't had time to do this for ages cause of exams, starting a new year, gigs and other stuff.

but anyway, besides a few gigs here and there ( particularly in the last few weeks) we haven't really been doing much.
you see basically since our april tour we've been stuck in a state of limbo.
basically to break it down even more, we played a gig for a nice guy called Seb, it was at his house with loads of other sweet bands. His friend Brett liked our set (yay) and said he wanted to manage us and release records blah blah.
so we were like " ok ...." 3 months later, still haven't really spoken to him and we're just doing like one gig a month but basically we played another house party and then a gig in bridgwater ( where brett lives) and we sorted everything out.

so basically ( i have to stop saying that!) the plan is to have a new release out by the end of the year ( or the start of 09) which will be released on Brett's label " in it for the money records"(formerly of tiger force) we've pretty much got the songs written, all it is a matter of sorting out where to record, who with, and how to fund it. we've got some pretty exciting plans for this release which includes, touring a lot (fuck college man, i got such good grades that i dont even need to go to uni*) touring a lot more, adding more people on myspace and maybe even making a video. (not sure whether i was meant to say that) the release will also almost definitely be on 7" which is cool and we're going to include a code with it so if you buy it you can download the songs for free so you guys have no excuse.

anyway, we played a gig with the almighty blakfish and tubelord last night which seemed to go really well compared to that horrendous show at the george the previous thursday. and some nice guy reviewed us in his blog. here it is, i'm not sure whether its good or not but here we go.

"Um… but anyway run, Walk! are on first, I get there I think it must have been somewhere halfway through their first song. I maintain they're probably Winchester's best band at the moment, not that I really know too much about any others. Just bass and drums, which makes for an interesting angle on the whole Kinsella-style thing they do at least, and plus this is one band where the *bassist* is the tortured artist there, which is novel. Undeniably teenaged, but that doesn't mean they aren't going interesting places. Pretty passionate performance too, at least from bassist/singer Matt, tumbling around the place angstily whilst drummer wins over my friend Ella's heart by just tapping happily away "like a pleased five year-old" (not my words). Manage to blag a free copy of their EP too- they didn't sound too proud of it when handing it over but as far as self-released EPs sold at shows go, its really good. Look out for them in future, I can only assume they're only getting better."

so yeah, thats all for now i'll update you soon when we have more news on the new release and other stuff.

Matt xx
